Anti Slip Walkway Products – What Are They?

An anti-slip walkway is essentially a walkway that has a coating applied to it. To make it non-slip, the coating has to have traction beads included in it. This helps prevent people from slipping when walking on wet floors. Perfect for public places like restaurants, schools, and hospitals.

What Is An Anti-Slip Walkway?

An anti-slip walkway is designed to keep people safe by preventing them from slipping on wet surfaces. These walkways are usually coated with Epoxy or Polyurethane Coatings, which have traction beads in them.

Where Can I Buy Them?

We have a load of different options for walkways, ranging from Anti-Slip Treatments for tiled floors to water-based Epoxy and two-part Polyurethane, which is UV stable.
Each environment has a different requirement. Factors such as how much foot traffic passes along the floor are important to consider. It is also crucial to consider what type of spills happen on the floor. These could be water-based or oil-based products. Most times, it is rain, dew, or irrigation sprinklers that cause floors to be slippery.

How To Install Them?

There are three main types of anti-slip walkway products available today:

  • Anti-Slip Treatments for tiled floors work on tiles that are not sealed. This product is for areas that are only slippery when wet.
  • Anti-Slip Epoxy Coatings are typically thicker coatings that make slippery walkways non-slip in wet and dry conditions.
  • Non-Slip Polyurethane Coatings are designed for commercial environments. These are environments where oils, acids, and flammable fluids are spilled on the floor.

All of these products can be installed by anyone with knowledge of painting. One of the most important factors to consider is preparation. When preparing your floor for a coating, always make sure there are no loose flakes, cracks, or dust and dirt on the floor. If the anti-slip coating doesn’t stick to the floor properly, it will lift and become dangerous. Not to mention, it will look bad.
